Latest weather forecasts predict temperatures on road surfaces will remain above freezing into the early hours in Bournemouth therefore it is unlikely Council gritters will be doing any road network runs before midnight tonight. However the situation will be further assessed in the early hours tomorrow and a decision taken as to whether further gritting operations are necessary before dawn.
In the meantime the Council urges all drivers and pedestrians to take extreme care if they have to venture out. In the event of gritters being mobilised priority routes one and two which covers A-roads, bus routes, key commuter roads, routes to hospitals and the travel interchange, will be covered.
Additional staff remain on standby to be called into action as they were this morning, to salt and grit icy pavements in key locations.Council staff remain on call 24/7 throughout the Christmas period to be called into action in the event of freezing temperatures.
