Stromenti thanks Doug Eyre, our new Honorary President, for introducing the last concert with his inimitable wit and delivery. He will be giving a repeat performance.

If you are totally baroqued, for some light relief, try "Last Night of the Boscombe Proms" tomorrow, Saturday at 7.30pm. For those who weren't willing to get drenched during the BSO fireworks proms, this is a chance to catch up with a miniaturized version featuring our three "Friends", accompanied by Stromenti in a programme of songs from around the UK and popular classics, including the traditional audience participation in Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. Remember your Union Jack hats and flags.

Free parking both sides of the church; nice fair trade tea and coffee, and heating

Lully died because he hit his foot with a conducting baton which turned gangrenous. To honour his compatriot, and the French style of composing, Francois Couperin dedicated his 14 movement trio sonata "Apotheosis" to his memory.
Vitali's Chaconne for violin and organ has just joined the 100 works most listened to on Classic FM. On Tuesday night at 7.30pm, Jack Maguire will perform this piece in the eerie acoustic of St Clements Chancel behind the famous rood screen. Fiona switches to viola for Telemann's trio sonata and Joe, his Cello in Vivaldi's sonata. Handel's E major sonata for 2 violins and the other works are all accompanied by David Warwick on Britain's only working Claviorganum.

Please forward this to another music lover, preferably who doesn't own a conductors baton.

Concerts are supported by Boscombe Working Community Partnership, Bournemouth Arts and St Clements Church.

Concerts at St Clements

Jack Maguire writes....

Apologies for last Tuesday's late interval and many thanks for our audience's patience. The new toilets rose to the occasion. However, be thankful, act 1 of Wagner's Gotterdamerung is 110 minutes long.

Vivaldi wrote concerti for just about every instrument. This Tuesday we hear the virtuoso concerto for "Ottavina", or orchestral Piccolo. Owain Bailey, international flautist, now principal piccolo with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, will also play the "Goldfinch" flute concerto, and Bach's B minor suite featuring the famous Badinerie, championed by James Galway and more recently by Motorola.
The concert starts with the flute quartet in D by Mozart. Cervantes' Don Quixote de la Mancha is celebrated by Telemann in his suite for strings, all accompanied by Stromenti baroque ensemble and Britain's only working Claviorganum, the ornate musical coffin that now lives in St Clements Church and emits 147 different sounds.
Dont forget there is free parking both sides of the church, and a free decorative souvenir programme.
Please forward this message to any music lovers who dont drink tea before concerts.
We would like to thank, on this occasion, the assistance we receive with publicity from staff of Bournemouth Borough Council. These concerts are supported by Boscombe Working Community Partnership and Bournemouth Arts and are free for disabled customers.

Residents are being asked for their view on three possible uses for the site currently occupied by the Bournemouth Centre for Community Arts.

The options include:

· Selling the site to a housing association for 100% affordable flats.

· Selling the site to a private developer who would build flats, 70% of which would be sold on the open market and 30% of which would be affordable.

· A partnership arrangement with a housing association to build affordable housing, alongside a day centre and offices. The day centre would replace existing facilities in the Boscombe / Southbourne area that provide services for people with physical disabilities and those who have mental health problems, and may also be used by people with learning difficulties. It would be available for community use in the evenings and at weekends. The offices would provide accommodation for Council staff who provide services in the Boscombe/Southbourne area. They may also include space that could be let to voluntary sector groups.

Public consultation will be for two weeks from Monday 10th September at Boscombe Library. Feedback forms will be available for people to complete and the closing date for comments is 21st September 2007.

Commenting on the options and public consultation, Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin, Leader of the Council and Member for Central Ward said “We recognise that this is an important site for Boscombe. The options we are consulting on reflect the need for housing in the area and the potential opportunity to provide Council services from the centre of the community. I really hope that residents and interested organisations will take this opportunity to let us know their views.”

The Council has looked at the possibility of keeping the existing buildings. However, this is not one of the three options that we are looking at now, because the buildings are in poor repair and require a large amount of money to be spent on them. Even with this investment to repair them, due to their age they are expensive buildings to run, both in terms of heating costs and future maintenance. Any new building would be purpose built for its intended use and will be cheaper to run.
The 18th century publisher and music critic Sheibe described Bach's music as "pompous, vain and tedious".
Nearly 400 years later, his music is more popular , much of it even being recycled to accompany advertisements for anything from cigars to banking.
The story of JS Bach is one of a penniless early 18th century German musician struggling to feed his huge family; the larger they grew, the more music he had to write (He fathered 21 children in total).
Tuesday's concert concentrates on the instrumental period which produced the violin concerti in E and A, and the double violin concerto. These will be played by Jack Maguire, recent co-leader of the BSO, and Fiona McKinley, Head of Strings at Canford School, all accompanied by David Warwick on Britains only working claviorganum and Stromenti. David will also deliver the epic Chromatic fantasy and Fugue.
St Clements Church BH14DZ (see www.multimap.com) has free parking at the East and West doors. Concertgoers enjoy a free picturesque programme, and refreshments are served at the interval. Jack Maguire will talk about the life and works of JS Bach between the pieces.
Concerts are supported by Bournemouth Arts, Boscombe Working Community Partnership and St Clements Church.
Please forward this e mail to any music lovers who like pompous and tedious music.
